Age Concern offers a reasonable deal: £30 per annum if you already have their travel cover, for 90 days per year and up to 31 days per trip. The various covers are good except "Roadside assistance & recovery" with only £250 maximum paid. Surely this is not enough? Can anyone recommend a better deal with more realstic cover under this heading please please? I don't expect to go outside France/Switzerland/Italy.

Had a glowing report of the rescue performed by Britannia Rescue for a reader. You don't buy a service like this on price. You buy it on how good they are when you have a problem.

I don't think that Britannia handle breakdown incidents in Europe. More likely that they outsource. Anyway take a look at:
www.breakdowndirect.co.uk/European_Breakdown_Cover...p
This is the best value European short trip cover I have found. The cover seems to stand up to others. There is also an annual product which also includes 'bells and whistles' UK cover.

I think Britannia do handle European cover. If you have the tope leel of their UK breakdown/recovery service you get Continental cover thrown in for free, which they claim is worht over £150. That figure looks about right, if you price up 14 days AA 5* Continental Cover. Well worth considering joining CSMA, if you are eligible, they do a lot more than just Britannia Rescue.

Abosolutely correct, Armitage. 'The Judge's posting might have had something to do with the fact that 'The Judge' is the forum ID for the chap who runs Breakdown Direct. I have hard copies of e-mails concerning a business deal I once did with him as proof of this.
