There's something caught my eye in an auction on this coming Friday. Does the team think that Friday will bring me an extraordinarily cheap price?
I guess it really depends whether it's caught someone else's eye too, but I can't imagine dealers or Joe Public being out in force to buy a car that day...?

to keep it out of the public eye, it may be an idea to hide the place & time of the auction.
going by hj's recent auction reports, you should do well.
good luck.

Good point, I love having the Edit button ;-)
However I'm not sure it would interest many - here it is
FORD FIESTA 1.2 ZETEC 16V 2K Hatchback, BLUE, 5 Doors, Manual Transmission, Petrol, 29729 Miles, Registered 13-01-2000
Also having trouble valueing it, what would be reasonable, assumingt average condition?

Hmmm thanks Peter, that's more than I had hoped. I am mid-decision (slow process) about whether to chuck more money at daughter's M reg 1.1 to cure oil loss or to replace the car. She *really* wants a Corsa but I was thinking if I could get this at about the £1k - £1.2k mark then she might be persuaded.
I think I will be "in town" anyway on Friday so may go for a look anyway...
I hadn't realised I could get prices for free from Glass's online, thanks for that too!
UPDATE: Glass's wanted £2.95 to tell me the value.. - thought they might :-)

Thanks PP - just looked at the link (took forever as I'm in a hotel in Nottingham on 28.8k!).
I notice that that's a part exchange price, i.e. a valuation of what I might be offered by a dealer if I were trading it in. Can someone advise (hopefully today) whether the auction price will be about the same, or more, or less?
Thanks

Well I got the Fiesta. Wouldn't quite say it was excellent condition, but it's definitely good, nor was it cheap, but I'm happy with it, and daughter even more so. Paid £2050.
There were quite a few people at the auction but I don't think many cars were really selling.
Nearly bought myself an early pressie. There was a 51 Audi TT 225bhp, low miles etc. Looked really good. Went for £13k provisional - I haven't a clue about prices of these but it really caught my eye.
Thanks all for your help.

Well me and most of my colleagues are planning to be in the pub by 11 so i wouldn't mind betting it'll be fairly quiet at the auction. Only problem you might have is if it's a provisional sale and you can't get through to the decision maker because he's already on his 4th G&T.

I'm going today. Should be buying because there are some sure bets out there but cashflow and the threat of snow in January do not allow. 22k mile 04 Mondeo facelift 1.8LX £5,475 on Monday. Bargain of the year. See rest of Monday's auction report at:

So HJ, did you buy the Lexus then?

I have been to late December auctions for the past few years and they can be a bit of a mixed bag - there are still plenty of traders there early on but an awful lot of private buyers who go because they're off work so it can be a bit crowded but it seems many are spectating rather than buying. Still plenty of private people prepared to pay over the odds for something they've set their hearts on.
