Citroen C6 HJ Auction Report - Vansboy
From Mondays HJ Auction Report....
The other price precedent of the day was a top bid of £24,000 for a 6k mile 06 Citroen C6 2.7V6 HDI Exclusive, but the auctioneers had Citroen on the phone and they would not let it go for that.

Is this the model featured on Top Gear, months back, when the question of depreciation & re-saleability, was mentioned to Citroen, they said not to worry, 'we'll buy it back'?

Looks like they've got this one!!

That really sends a message. Lets face it - not many will get sold anyway, so the fact that citroen could intervene is a real kicker. They dont need ot do it all the time, just enough to keep it a live urban rumour

"£15"
Maybe a little optimistic - I think the word "thousand" is missing!

I had the 2.2 Exclusive on a four day test drive last month - amazing car - and it felt pretty special to drive a car that hardly anyone has even seen - I certainly didn't see another during the four days. It so smooth and wafty it almost made a trip to Ipswich down the A12 bearable...

Didn't see another for 4 days?

Pah, I see at least 10 EVERY day!!!!

Maybe that's because I work next to Citroen head office in Slough though....

To be fair, this is the £38k list, £34k discounted top model - i.e., 530d money but maybe with a bit more kit.

The 2.2 HDi base spec is about £10k cheaper and so I would have thought that £15k would be attainable by the end of the year - if you can find one.

How much of a criticism is that HJ? Just a matter of personal taste or more serious than that?

A sixties Oldsmobile or similar is a boat too, but much harder to hustle through sweeping twisties, surely?

On another matter, I wonder how much the headlights cost given that C5 ones are a grand each.

I like boats.... My Volvo S80, you feel every bump. Why do they do that???? You've got a 5m exec saloon with cream leather interior and a stereo built to waft out Classic FM. You (plus wife and kids) want to be soothed over the roads, not feel every sodding hole, ridge, or manhole cover. I bought a large saloon, not a GTI.

Motoring journalists are to blame I'm sure.

My dad test drove one and loved it, but he's mental about citroen. Should have seen the pace the sales guys went for him, talk about trample the weak and hurdle the dead. But he was wearing a suit rather than looking a scruff. They wanted 29k for an hdi 2.2 twin turbo auto exclusive ie 40k worth. Oddly enough all those on autotrader are ex dem and none seem to be owned by actual people. Good job they're only built to order as they'd be a field full of them by now...

..which is odd, I did a quick Autotrader scan, got:

C6 Exclusive 2.7, 4 Doors, Automatic, Saloon, Diesel, 6,000 miles £25,990 - from a franchise dealer

..so wouldn't the £24K be about right then at auction? If so, why the wobbler (if as reported) by Citroen?
Citroen C6 HJ Auction Report - Kuang
By 'on the phone' and 'wouldn't let it go' does that mean that Citroen were bidding by phone to secure a resellable car rather than throwing their toys out of the pram? I wouldn't have though an auction house would have bowed to pressure from a manufacturer telling them how to do business.

I took it to mean Citroen were the seller.

On prices, the original report is from March, time moves on.

I saw one in France at the beginning of the year and really liked it. I'll have PhilW's when he finishes with it.

Get a test drive of a C6 and see how it floats for yourself. You might like it. You might not. But it doesn't take kindly to sudden changes of direction so if it's comfort you're after and if you see an S bend sign ahead make sure you brake (gently) first.

Superb car. Drove a 2.7 Diesel last year; thought it was wonderful. Not everyone will like it i know. Lots of people want sporty handling, precise steering and suspension so firm you can feel the thickness of the white paint they do the road markings with. Personally im one of the few who dont like all that. I like to glide along in armchair comfort, floating along withouth feeling any of the bumps and potholes. Very few cars these days are designed to please people like me; but the C6 is the best by a country mile. Its nice that Citroen are prepared to offer something just a little bit different. The C6 is unique.
Citroen C6 HJ Auction Report - Lud
Doesn't sound to me as if you are one of nature's Citroen drivers HJ. Not everyone is.

But I've come across a few, and they carry terrific speed into corners they know. Perhaps are more conservative though on unknown roads.

The key as you say is no sudden changes when strong lateral g is already engaged. But a known, or obvious, sequence of open curves can be taken at an impressive clip, provided the passengers aren't fazed by roll angles. You have to go incredibly fast to get much slip, and this is very unlike most boats...
Citroen C6 HJ Auction Report - M.M
Seems to me, as hinted above, the C6 is as near as we'll get to a DS for this era.

I too owned a DS (DS21 Pallas). This was in the late 1970s when all my mates had Capris, Minis and Avengers etc.

That too appeared to be a soft drive and against the conventional theory of fast, firm and sharp handling cars. However it didn't take long to find it had huge abilities to travel at great speeds on all road types with ease, comfort and safety.

Many mid-range cars seem to have thrown ride comfort out of the window these days... great shame.

I have quite a hankering for one of these too. We were seriously impressed when one went past us in France last year at about 95mph.

Particularly as he was towing a rather large caravan at the time.

Unfortunately they will remain above my budget for a year or so yet so I might be tempted by a 2-3 year old Vel-Satis in the meantime.
