Anyone had any dealings with the mitsubishi L200? how good/reliable are they, expensive to repair etc.......

Brother's did 150k no real problems. 60k tyre life. But needed regular timing belts.

Problem about getting new ones I read in the paper? Or what? Is it just a matter of grey imports undercutting the official ones? The story seemed a bit technical and didn't really say.

I have been thinking about getting one to pull the horse box but am unsure how I would cope living with one as my main car. I hired one (old shape) last year for a couple of weeks and loved it

They are very highly regarded in this part of the world (New Zealand). One of the best sellers in its class here, and they go for years. Recommended.

Seem to be ok in general altho best to keep up with servicing. Most criticism that Ive heard is about the driving experience, both in comparison to cars and also other pickups.
I note that a customer of mine has a fully serviced Warrior model which is now showing 60k - nothing wrong as such but when its left for more than a day, its a pig to start and when it finally does fire up, serious clouds of smoke, but once its going its fine. Usually have to let the glow plugs burn twice aslong as the book says to get a result.
I think thats disappointing as my old Astra van had the same fault, but it didnt happen until 115k.

Friend had one for 70k miles, Apart from routine servicing, nothing else was done to it in anyway. It was built like a tank. I borrowed it for a 700 mile in a week trip. I still have back shoulder and hip problems. Comfortable driving postion it dont have!

In response to Lud, Mitsubishi UK has effectively used EC copyright law to stop independent importing of new pickups, SUVs and anything else it makes into the EC. 3 years old or older, okay.

t'missus has a 54 plate L200 on lease from DSG Autos (deal done through an ad on this site). She loves it and its ability offroad. I've driven it to the alps and back a number of times now with no problems. Perhaps TVM is an odd shape ::battens down the hatches::

What the hell was he doing with it? Ours goes offroad daily and has carried some huge loads and hasn't put a foot wrong.

Granted I need a step ladder to eat a pancake and doors have to be widened at the bottom to let me through. It could be worse; I could wander around in a ridiculous full-length leather coat looking like I'm auditioning to be an extra in "Blade".....
I drove a Freelander2 in XS spec yesterday. Oh deary me, they want HOW MUCH for one of those? £28k for one with part leather seats and no sat nav, no low range and acres of plastic? Granted, it's on road manners were great, it handled very well and pulled like a train but £28k?
And from what I hear they're selling like your proverbial. May I suggest that anyone seeing an FL2 coming towards them immediately pulls out of the way as the owner has demonstrated a woeful lack of judgement that may well carry over to their ability to judge distances, gaps and speed......

The older ones aren't too bad; but the new model is rubbish. Those that repair lots of them wouldn't have one as a gift.
Engine, transmission, driveshafts, [@ £1500 - a side!] dual-mass flywheels, just about everything seems to go wrong except the electrics.

Argh! Another vehicle falls victim to the dual-mass flywheel. Grrrr.....
When the L200 goes back at the end of the lease it looks like we'll be replacing it with a Defender as none of the current batch of pickups inspire much faith for longevity.

Ive just bought a 2006 warrior (old shape) 4500mls, full leather interior, air con, totally immaculate, downside is the mpg, 27mpg taking it very easy. apart from that im pleased as punch, best vehicle ive had.

We get 24-28mpg no matter how hard we thrash it or how gently we take it. Remarkably consistent.

I must admit I do prefer the look of the old one as to me the new one looks a bit girlie. If I lease through the company it will have to be new but if I jump off the company car scheme I think I will buy an old shape. The dealers frightened me with the servicing costs of the old shape but the Mobile franchise will do the expensive service for £240.
If I am not being too rude could tell me how much you paid for your 2006 Warrior?

Pica, i paid £11500 for the warrior no VAT thankfully, 06 plate with just over 2yrs warranty left, the previous owner paid £19k plus extras...tow bar, load liner, 10 cd changer and side steps, all in all came to 22k, 9mths later he sold it to me for 11.5k. . Like you i prefer the old shape, i was tempted to go for a trojan, dealer in sittingborne kent was selling at £12000 plus VAT, dreaded VAT put me off.

The new L200 is much tougher than the old one. Bigger steering arms. Stronger back axle. Etc. I've seen them both being built on the production line at Laem Chabang. It may not look tougher, but underneath it is.
