I know a lot of backroomers also ride bikes.
Having just spent a wonderful afternoon out on my Sprint RS 955i I was wondering why they are mentioned so rarely these days. (Bikes in general, I mean)
Triumph Motorcycles - Fullchat
They are all wrapped up and cosy for the winter.

To be fair I got out on my 1050 Sprint on Boxing Day. Clear and dry if a little cool.

The bike has just shown its disgust at its infrequent use by the alarm throwing a wobbler which means £140 for a new circuit board and a bit of a strip down to get to it :-(((

One of the only regrets of the last four years of my life and becoming a new father is the lack of motorcycling miles I've done. Thankfully, rather than sell it, I've hung on to my trusty ZZR600, and one of my new years resolutions was to get some miles under its wheels this summer.

Motorcycling provides a particular pleasure you just can't explain to people who haven't done it IMHO. A bit like parenthood in that respect.

Safe riding!

Cheers

I got out on the FJS600 on New Years Day, cold's not the word but I did test my Christmas neoprene gloves. Together with the hot grips and new wind deflectors I was quite cosy. Will get it out next week for MOT so might do a few miles afterwards, perhaps down to Delamere for a cuppa and a bun. Made up my mind to get the Velocette tested and legal this spring...no use having something you don't use.

A reader bought an unregistered 2006 Triumph motorcycle in August and took it to Greece. He did not try to register it until this year. It now turns out that for some Type Approval reason, his 2006 bike had to be registered by the end of 2008 and because it wasn't it cannot now be registered. Can any bike fans shed any light on this?

Could he tell them it's been made out of bits and get a Q plate?

According to vca.gov.uk:
What are the benefits to me of European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA)?
A key objective of ECWVTA is the harmonisation of the European market. No member state can refuse to register or permit the sale and entry into service of new vehicles (on the grounds of construction) if they are accompanied by a valid certificate of conformity (COC).

A certificate of conformity is, in effect, a statement by the manufacturer that the vehicle conforms to the relevant EC type-approval. Member states cannot refuse to register vehicles for use on their roads if they comply with a properly issued type-approval.

The key appears to be the Certificate of Conformity.

"Any model of vehicle which was being sold in the UK before 17 June 1999 could continue to be sold up to 16 June 2003 if it complied with The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, as amended (C&U) and The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, as amended (RVLR). After 16 June 2003 European Whole Vehicle Type Approval applies."

I can't see anything relating to 2006 and later vehicles.

Hmmm yes the last couple of summers have been pretty carp.
Rode back from Switzerland 1st Friday in September last year - 30 degrees when I left
but then 500 miles of the heaviest rain I have ever seen. It gets through everything, no matter how waterproof you thought it was. Got home at 10pm, put the heating on and shivered!

Cos this is a car forum?!

The Africa Twin is having some TLC at the moment, but still plodding on as well as ever, and the new carbs for the VFR are sat in Feltham Interlink depot waiting to be collected, do hope that sorts out a rich-running problem that was bugging me...

HJ....How about a separate section in the Backroom just for us bikers?
Triumph Motorcycles - Honestjohn
On the basis of statistics, no need for a separate section. You are all welcome to discuss your bike and bike problems in Discussion.

Unless you feel that a separate section would discourage non-bikers from taking annoying pops at you.

In which case we could have a 'Biker's Caff.'

I would be more inclined to post 'bikey' stuff if there was another section.

That's just me, no idea why!

Discussion...' a place to discuss things with some connection to motoring'
Biking is a form of motoring so no problem there then ?...bike haters.

I came onto this forum partly for stress relief from biking forums, and to see how the "other half" live. I'd prefer it for us all to be in together, makes for better understanding of particular problems which car drivers who don't use trucks and bikes sometimes don't perceive.

Stet please HJ.

And those of us that prefer to stay warm and dry could look into it and feel slightly jealous, but smugly retain our unbroken limbs.

Can I get a bumper sticker: I'd rather be on two wheels. ;>)

I tend to shy away from mentioning the bike in case all the 'car only' folk get bored. And when someone is brave enough to mention their bike it can sometimes prompt the odd sharp comment along the lines of "bikes are dangerous" etc. We all know that bikes are potentially dangerous pieces of kit but we choose to take the risk because the rewards are so great. A separate section called 'Talking Bikes' or as HJ suggests 'Bikers Caff' would be a positive addition to the site.

I just like getting their blood pressure up by the ease with which I glide to the front of queues at traffic lights.
They get their revenge when it rains.
