BMW - Registration and Manufacture

Hi guys,

I have found a second hand car I would like to buy, however when I checked its history I discovered that its year of manufacture was 1999, but the date of its first registration wasn't until 2004...what could be the reason for this?

The last recession.

A lot of RHD German cars were scheduled for the RHD Tiger Economies of Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand. Then it all went pear shaped and the cars wound up sitting on the docks in Germany, until British entrepreneurs snapped them up at big discounts and offered them cheaply in the UK. Some even came all the way back from the Far East.
