I don't think service items are covered under warranty. It might be easier to buy a genuine oil filter and get a local garage (or do it yourself) to fit it for a tenner.

Consumables such as oil or disc pads aren't covered by the warranty but any type of valve should be. No harm in pushing them on this.

In last Saturday to main dealer for an oil change. They advised no failure of the filter and that all Toyota engines on a cold start sound the same.
Are they trying to pull the wool over my eyes?

Maybe they're just trying to get you to buy a louder stereo from them :o)

They would say that,I to have a RAV4, 6 months old with 3000 miles on the clock, it does not have this problem.
I will however be changing the oil and filter soon, as I do not like leaving oil changes for a whole year as stated in the handbook.
I have found to my cost in the past main agents are not to be trusted!
