Hi there,
I was just wondering what was the difference between a Zetec 1.6 (for example) and a "normal" 1.6 engine.
just curious, thats all..

It's just a Ford brand name for its belt-cam twin-cam four valve per cylinder four cylinder engines. The first basic engine was the Zetec E in 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre capacities. Then along came the Zetec S in 1.25, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 litre capacities. Ford has now changed this brand name for the engines used in the new Fiesta.

Ahh I see!
So Zetec just means that its a 16v engine twin cam. Curiosity quashed.
Thanks HJ.

But...
Haven't ford now started to use Zetec as a trim level. Are there two versions of the engine?
BTW. Wasn't the engine originally called Zeta (or similar) but another manufacturer got the hunp over similarities between this and their engine range causing the engine to be renamed zetec.
