Rover Streetwise (2003 - 2005) - Different VED same car same engine

Different VED same car same engine - oilfilter
I am looking to buy a small Rover Diesel for our son, I came across something strange in the VED band for what is essentially the same car with the same engine.

I am looking at the 101 PS TD L engine that can be found in the Rover 25 the MG ZR hatch and the Streetwise.

I am looking at a 2004 models and see that the band for the MG and 25 is F (£125/year) however the ved for the Streetwise is G at £150/year.

I thought these are the same cars with different badge and trim, how come the streetwise emits more carbons out of essentially the same body/tranny/engine?

The streetwise is higher, therefore more wind resistance. It might have wider tyres too.

The bodykit might also affect the aerodynamics.

Nothing more than that, I imagine.

Check the availability of trim parts specific to the Streetwise rather than the 25 generally at

www.rovaparts.co.uk

It's a very rare model and unless a stash of Streetwise parts was left behind you could have problems.

Could be lower gearing/final drive with the same engine.

In the latter days of Rover they could not do any major changes but they could add plastic to the body (as it cost little) maybe they could also tweek gear ratios as replacing 1 cog by another would cost little or nothing.

you need to take on board what hj is saying here and stay clear of the streetwise,these most certainly are now getting written off for what would be a very trivial motor accident

Streetwise will probably be heavier due to the unecessary "armour".

maybe they could also tweek
gear ratios as replacing 1 cog by another would cost little or nothing.

In fact it could be saving them money if they are using up old stock rather than making/buying in new parts, not unheard of is it?

Gear ratios are probably the same, 0-60 time is unchanged between SW and 25.

Weight of comparable 25 is only 10kg different, I think it's the extra height (and slight width) that's causing extra drag - so drinking more fuel. 6mpg difference in fact!

The top speed of the SW is also slightly lower, suggesting extra drag through the air too.
