Why dont people accept these days that mechanical components wear out just like they always have
Its seems that many people think that a code read can replace worn metal bits
Strange times
comments anyone?

Any `Tales From The Crypt` then, bb?
|
What evidence is there that people don't accept that? After all, bits are replaced at services, repairs etc. as they always have been - I hadn't noticed a great groundswell of public opinion or widespread comment about this, either here or more generally.
False conundrum posed.

There must be a story !
... yes, bb's got a job lot of slightly dodgy Fiesta 1.2 short engines that he's trying to unload on unsuspecting punters with sooty lambda sensors, and they are proving resistant in these harsh economic times...
Punter: 'But it's only done 23,000 miles and you've serviced it yourself!'
bb (sucks teeth reflectively): 'They nearly all do that, squire. Please yourself though...'

"The oil lights coming on at roundabouts again, I`ll have to get it topped up"
You enquire a couple of weeks later. "Not got around to it yet"

This reminds me of a car a few years ago, that came into the prestige dealer I was working at, at the time.
It came in running on five (six cylinder)
the 'technician' spent all day running diagnostics on it, swapped coil packs over, new plugs, you name it, he tried it, nothing improved the running.
late in the day, an old school mechanic asked if the 'tech' had done a compression test....
'No' was the answer
out came the compression tester - ZERO compression on the one cylinder....
after lifting the head, a nice hole was found in the piston!

I haven't heard that metallic scraping noise from my front discs recently, so I guess the pads must be OK!!! :))

People don`t accept they`re going to wear out never mind their cars

a classic internet forum question follows
it has had a water leak for a few weeks but it seemed to cure itself yesterday but while i was on the motorway today it made a funny noise and wont now start
can anyone please help?------
----------its made that noise for ages so i ignored it
---------i saw the light flashing but assumed they all do that
-----------its not a puncture it just keeps on going down

I had that problem, it was a duff brand new valve.
|
any decent tyre shop would spittle the valve core and pull the valve in all direction s if rubberised and also perform the squeezy bottle of water round the base old navy
or have proper professional tyre fitters now gone the way of most things?

I think they must have, thats how I sussed it after a tyre shop removed the tyre claiming bead leak, but put the original (duff) valve core back in!
