Back on tonight 20:30. Channel 5.
|
Well done, Dave. This posting pulls it back to the top of the list. Must see what Q,T,V and T have been up to.

Let's just hope they haven't decided to follow the 'Driven' route !!
|
|
And let's hope they keep GT on the agenda.
|
|
Anything is better than 'Driven'. Why do they shout so much on that programme?
|
[snip] look at the title, \"5th Gear\". Not \"Speeding\" just \"5th Gear\".
Please try harder.

Just a few minutes into the programme and already the dubious camerwork is evident. Why can't we have nice, clear, steady shots of the presenters/ cars and why do we need all the silly music ?
|
Tiff and the Ferrari was a wonderful piece of TV. All credit to the director and producer for giving it the time they did. But why did Quentin tell us he'd bought the most wonderful Bentley in the World and they wanted to make it a competition prize, but we can't have it. We can have some other old Bentley Quentin bought for us. If that was going to be the case, then why bother showing the first Bentley and making us all feel short changed?

HJ,
"Tiff and the Ferrari was a wonderful piece of TV."
Are you sure? Nice car but half the programme dedicated to a car that .001% of us are ever going to see never mind get near?
|
It was good TV because it was funny and absorbing. My simple test for this is it managed to grab the attention of my wife and son who can't stand car programmes. Tiff gently sent himself up, but still came out on top with FTD. Who cares that none of us can afford the car.

Nothing against cars we can't afford being featured. Merely pointed out that they took up half the programme with it, much of which was us watching Tiff being kept waiting!
Each to his own. What did they make of the Volvo off-roader? I missed the early bit.
|
What did they make of the Volvo off-roader?
From what I remember, the guy who did the report - Adrian Simpson - was impressed by the 13 speakers for the dolby pro logic stereo with it's 8" subwoofer. Also the 7 seat ability.

Is it possible that Miss VBH was giving us a hint that she has other gainful employment....as a part-time pole dancer?? ;-)
|
The the price of the Benlty, you could get a first class Mondeo !

Well can't compare 5th Gear to Driven as I haven't watched Driven this series[1] But there was a certain "Top Gear" feel to it that wasn't there the last series. If it weren't for the advert midway through, I could have sworn I was watching BBC2 minus Clarkson!!
[1] By all accounts I haven't missed much.
|
The Top Gear feel is due to the fact that the producer/director is the old Top Gear producer/director.

Not sure if I liked the programme tonight because it was good or because Driven is so abysmally bad these days.
Veering on the edge of falling off-topic, The Count really does haver the worst barnet on TV. Perhaps he's put his head out of the window at high speed once too often and it's all been pushed back. A visit to a trained barber is surely in order.
Only bit I'd swap was VBH running around the parking meter, a bit unnecessary methinks.
Overall, 7/10
Lee.
