Does T-cut "go off"?

I have found an old can in the garage, but it does't seem to have any 'cutting effect'.

What is the shelf life of this product?

You'll have to shake it very very hard.... in time it separates into two layers, a very thin watery liquid covering a thick dense gloop. I've used 20 year old T cut with good results; I say good, but many people think that there are better products, so I await comments.

Shelf life? My can was bought over 28 years ago and still works.. BUT I agree shake for 1 minute very hard...

I use it once a year at best for the odd difficult stain or scratch.

This is for solid paint only. Not metallic because it will take the lacquer off. Also many solid coulours, perticularly red, are now lacquer coated (VAG's reds have been for 12 years) to protect them from losing pigment, so T-Cut should not be used on them.

I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara in two-tone metallic Scuba Blue / Mercury Silver (presumably lacquered?) which I bought new 12 years ago. Throughout that time I have also use T-Cut once a year from a can that I have had for a number of years to remove minor scratches etc followed by a coat of Autoglym resin polish and I have to say that the T-Cut has not had any noticeable detrimental effect and the paintwork is as good as new.

However, T-Cut do sell an alternative product specifically for metallic and pearlescent paint finishes called T-Cut Metallic Colour Restorer.

What would you advise instead ? I use Autoglym resin polish which seems very effective on small marks or scratches but I've read of 'clay bars' and other such innovations.

Clay bars 'clean' the paint surface far more gently, safely and effectively than a 'cutting' polish like T-Cut. Even the surface of a lacquer coating.
