HJ's Jetta GT. - M.M
Have you seen HJ's Jetta GT in the classifieds for £100!!

By chance I opened a 1986 Autocar the other day to read a full road test of the model. They really rated it with a 0-60 of 8.5 secs and 119mph max. Handling was well liked also.

From my experience of older VWs this would either give you a great deal of fun for a few months till it breaks, or it may even be worth some TLC for a longer term future. After all it is just a Golf GTi (only better looking) and one of those would be at least five times as much in similar condition.

Bargain at twice the price.

The only troubles are:

1. It looks like a Jetta
2. You can't fit wardrobes etc in it
3. Insurance is just as horrific as a Golf GTI

If I didn't already have a Golf GTI I might even take it off HJs hands :)

If no one takes it this weekend it goes for scrap.

That would be a shame. I'll try and persude me Dad he needs one to run about in.

Or, if Phil G's Dad is not interested, why not send it to auction??? Or give it away to Richard Hall?

I can't believe anybody on this forum would send a roadworthy car to scrap, especially the venerable HJ. I know I never could.

all in the best possible taste.

Maybe you've got space for it and time for it. I have neither. Will try to give to Brooklands Motor Project which is a local charity teaching under-age kids to drive and fix up cars, but If they won't take it, then Sunbury Salvage might. Nothing wrong with the car mind. Goes, starts, stops; has decent tyres, new alternator, even a pull-out Soney Cassette radio. But no one gets the car unless they sign properly for it and can prove their address.

HJ,

Why not put it up on ebay starting at a pound?! You often see MOT failures going for more than a hundred!

Excellent idea. But I'd have to set up an ebay account, and they are not 100% secure. Meanwhile I have two vicars after the car, which is free to a man of the cloth.

Vicars?

In a Jetta GTi?

Indeed, God goes to work in mysterious ways!
:)

Mental,
Having seen the hassle caused by eBay auctions (There was a well-chronicled story of a backroomer bidding for a Yugo, once), it seems more trouble than it's worth.

Careful HJ, you could be guilty of sexual discrimination here, why is free only to a man of the cloth - do you have an ideological objection to women priests ?

Matthew Kelly
No, not that one.

OT but I have found EBay auctions excellent. Sold for £89 a book I bought 10 years ago for £30. No hassle .

I can recommend it (they may have had past problems.. only used it for 6 months)

I'm no expert, but surely the Bible use the term 'man' to cover both male and female of the species, and predates much of this PC tosh by a few thousand years.
