bmw 330 - may be going past my alloted 10000 miles - CARL6789

Hi can anyone help , ive bought a car with 85000 miles on the clock last october 2009, at that time i would of only used about 5000 miles per annum . my situation changed and i informed my insurnce company and increased it to 10,000 miles on the policy ,it was changed and was charged by them accordingly , now im upto 94,000 miles so it seems i will go past their 10,000 miles , how many miles will they allow over ? without my policy being invalid? thankyou

Your safest bet is to assume none, Carl.

I think it only cost £8 to add another 2,000 miles to my cars insurance. That was from 8,000 to 10,000 miles.

I have always insured my car for limited milage and although i have never gone over it i have never been asked to verify my milage in any way.Seems they have always taken my word for it.

Jonny1 - insurance companies take your word on everything - you agree that what you have said is true when you accept the quotation.

One thing my insurance company asked following an accident - mileage of vehicle. I get a quote for 18,000 a year. If my 18 month old car had done 50,000 miles they would have started asking questions, no problem if I can show the mileage was 45,000 when I bought it 6 months before, a bit of a problem if they prove it was 8,000.

Fortunately not .I know they will do all they can not to pay up and its not worth the risk not telling them but they never ask the milage when you bought the car and if it is under 3 years old there is no mot proof and your not required to keep service history. With them being so keen not to pay up it seems a bit lax of them not to want proof.
