Hello Avant, I have a 'technical' question of a different nature. My friend has been looking at the Backroom and enjoys it. She decided to create an account so she could contribute. Her computer is in 'dry dock' so she used my laptop. Registered with her own hotmail address, received the HJ reply to verify but the link let her through with my e mail address coming up. When she tried again she was barred from the server altogether. Is it because she is using my laptop? I would have thought her own e mail etc would suffice. Any suggestions, poor Margaret is champing at the bit. Thanks Concrete

You should be able to use any computer, so I've no idea what the problem is - so I'll copy and paste your message and E-mail it to our developers. I'll let you know when I get their answer.

Avant ive had an idea, and ive just heard everyone now exit this page as ive said that but hear me out.
You know we commonly have a problem of spammers dragging up every old thread if it features words of what they're trying to plug? Why not a system of every thread which hasnt received a reply in, lets say 90 days or something gets locked?

Thanks for this Jamie: it makes sense, but we do get some resurrected threads where someone has a similar problem to one posted a few years ago, and now gets some new replies as well as the older ones. So that's quite a useful function.
Agreed, spammers are a pain but it doesn't take long to delete their posts, and my co-mods do quite a lot of this as they are around usually in the mornings.

Are the spammers actual people? Because if not surely one of those 'type the letters drawn in this box' thing for when you sign up should weed them out?

They use personal E-mail addresses to get round that one, unfortunately.

Good day, i dont know how to use this site cause am having problem with my peugeot 307 Horn and Ac cause the horn keep stopping to work anytime i repair it and they keep saying is the wire or fuse behide the airback that looses or burnt so know what to do about that and for the Ac, anytime i uses the Ac the car always do overhearting. can you please help me on what to do?

If you think something is wrong with the forums or chat rooms and can't get them to work right for you (usually it's just one feature that was working in the past but suddenly isn't any longer), please try this first before posting here:
1. Clear your web browser's cache and try reloading the page.
2. Shut down your browser altogether and try visiting the page again when you restart it.
3. Try using a different web browser altogether. If you're using Internet Explorer, for instance, try using Firefox or Google Chrome instead. If it works fine in one of those other browsers, then you've narrowed the problem down to whatever the old browser you were using is.
4. Last, try shutting down your entire computer and rebooting.

Yes, I had an Avant 2.5 TDI at the time I joined the forum - hence the nom de clavier! The best car I've had out of about 20, but perhaps equalled by the current (petrol) Octavia vRS estate.
