Question for HonestJohn - Gazza
Hi,

Mind I ask if your 2.0 Mondeo had the new or old engine? I think the new engine is from S-reg onwards but not 100% sure.

Also, can you confirm if the new 2.0 engine has hydraulic tappets or mechanical tappets?

Okay, I accept that you're asking this here because it might be of interest to other people. But individual HJ questions should be e-mailed to me.

Ours is a January 1998 build 98R. Don't know what type of tappets it has, but they've never been adjusted so probably hydraulic. Didn't think the engine changed until the new shape when it went up to 143bhp. But even Glass's Guide is confused about this, listing the 2.0 as 134bhp from 94 to 2000 in the LX, etc, but 128bhp in the 1999 - 2000 Zetec.

Whatever, it is not supposed to be a good idea to convert this engine to lpg, if that is the reason for asking about the tappets.
