Quote from www.whatcar.co.uk

"The new Micra is built from quality materials that feel as though they will out-last many owners"

Depending how the word 'many' is stressed, this can either be an indication of good build quality, or of the target market!

Hope not because the low Group 2 insurance groups of the 1.0 and 1.2 should make the car very attractive to youngsters. It could go either way. If the kids take to it and make it trendy then that will be great. But if it becomes an old fogey's car and the kids laugh at its looks then that will be a real shame.

My colleague bought one through work for the princely sum of £4999 brand new and is more than pleased. Motoring on a budget it may be, but not bad for under 5 grand.

That's the old model, not the new model. Nissan is hoping for a change of image with the new one.

Hmmm.. So are you saying that I shouldn't talk my gran into getting one HJ? :)

She's had her eye on one for a while, and a recent driveway mishap may well help her make the decision to downsize...

No, Blue Oval, keep her to a Yaris, like my mum.

So does the new image include a more expensive "less budget-oriented" appeal?

Anyhow, SWMBO's Micra is without PAS and this ought to be a good time to upgrade to a new old-style one. May be the wrong image but they still sound sweet.

Well, that's certainly a recomendation that I would go with. :)

Although that keyless entry system is still appealing to the gadget freak in me! :)

I suppose it'll be standard on many more cars in the not so distant future...

Isn't the locking system based round a wireless transmitter in which case what stops someone from listening in to the signal in order to copy it?

Or is the Micra image enough to prevent thieves from stealing it? I had a Micra. Nice little car. Broken into twice. The thieves took contents but didn't try to drive it. The only problem with a Micra is that some drivers treat it with contempt. Seems their ego can't cope with being behind one.

In response to this, go to groups.msn.com/honestjohn/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=...s where you will find a photo of probably the first new Micra stuffed up the backside on European roads. I should know. I was the passenger. We were on the Via Sohia out of Rome. Pre-smashed XJ40 in front stops, but has no breaklights. My driver applies Micra's brakes (s=which now have extremely effective ABS with EBD and Brake Assist). Micra stops 1 metre behind pre-smashed Jag. FIAT Stilo behind then promptly smacks us in the back and shunts us into the Jag.

I drive past the Nissan factory every day and see a lot of them about, they are perfectly good no frills transport. I often get stuck behind them pootling about at 50mph on a 70 road. (Last time Wednesday night, Old Dear, white knuckles on the wheel, quinting straight ahead into the middle distance.)

In my case its not ego, I drive a twelve year old Escort.

The old Micra certainly has an image problem.

I can see why but, if thats the case, then the more fool those who ignore it because I've found it to be a great little car for nipping around town.

And, back to my original point, with a new model out, there will hopefully be plenty of cheap nearly new ones up for grabs and I could well take advantage.
