Hello all. In a similar vein to my recent Prius review i can confirm i will be spending the weekend with one of the new shape Ford Fiesta's. My car is going in for a service at my local independant who now provides courtesy cars, i couldve had the service done during the week in an afternoon but i plumped to just leave it with him on Saturday and i'll take one of their Fiesta's for the weekend.

I believe its a 1.4TDCi but im not certain right now, i know it'll be a 3 door.

I shall let you know whats what with it! If anybodies interested of course.

Knowing what you think of small capacity diesels, I`ll not hold my breath

Haha !

Looks like a nice car but it's a bit of a porker isn't it. It's huge!

I remember when the Fiesta was a small car.

Ethan

Bad news.........that is an age related phenomena.

I know.

1.4?...don't expect it to pull you out of bed.

What will be interesting though is to hear of the fuel consumption compared to your usual steed.

Well not so long ago the thought of a 1.4litre diesel wouldve sounded pretty tragic to most people and barely preferable to walking. I keep being assured by most of you on here that is no longer the case so i thought i'd give it a try, or would you rather i ignore it and not give it a chance?

As i said i think its the 1.4, i shall be able to confirm tomorrow. I know its a diesel and the 1.6 is the only other option.

Fuel economy will be interesting, Ford claim 60mpg+ average with these but most owners seem to report 50-60 so we'll see.

` Tragic` is the very word you used last week with your very opinionated view on small capacity diesels describing a 1.3CDTi Astra and when it all boils down you have never had any experience driving any.

You don`t have a clue, now thats what I call tragic !

Haha

Again another thread gets degraded by various members into unwarranted attacks on me.

The only experience i have of a small diesel was one of the old Fiesta 1.8D's and that literally was tragic. Ive only owned one Diesel (406 HDi) so no my experience of diesels isnt vast.

Im interested to see if smallish diesels have really moved on as far as you lot claim from the old Fiesta 1.8 and i hope you're right.

Eh ?

No attack from me just stating the fact that your answer was the unhelpful remark `tragic ` when a small capacity diesel was suggested to someones previous query on purchasing a diesel without a DPF.

The 1.4 ford diesel has been referred to on here by others as a bit limp in the past but I said ill give it a chance. For all types of driving a larger one probably will be best but we'll see.

On an unrelated note I have an entire weekend of changing gear myself now. Just won't do at all.

We shall await this informative report with bated breath. I have driven the petrol version to Sellafield and back and that is a journey better done in something more tank-like, but I did get the little Fiesta screaming up to a fair lick on the motorway. Took about 10 miles to accelerate to that speed like.....

I'll be interested in what you have to say about the Fiesta's rear visibility.

I haven't sat in one yet so won't condemn it outright, but from the outside it looks as there is a severe blind spot caused by the kicked-up styling of the rear windows (or lack of them).

Well i'll be driving a three door which may differ from the 5 door in that regard (rear windows) but i'll have a thorough look and see whats what.

Ford problems are poor build and rust, after 3 years, so can you arrange for a longer test

There are far more informative reports on this vehicle for the consumer to read and digest than the one from an anti small engine diesel critic there is also a good one by the founder of this site to read and digest.I have driven the said vehicle and found it quite adequate to cope with present day traffic conditions reasonable quite very well equiped and extremely economical but I only used it for three days so it was impossible to give a proper in depth report .

Nobodies telling you to read it Collos but Avant often says he likes forum users putting forward reviews of any cars they own or have used.
