Interesting 7 seater - crjos

When we started a family, we got a Rav4, which we like very much. However, we now need to get a third child in the back for school rotas, and the back seat of the Rav4 is just not wide enough.

I know that there are loads of good 7 seaters out there, but I'm looking for ideas for something interesting - as opposed to yet another Previa or Galaxy.

Any ideas?

Budget is about £8k, mileage will be low - probably under 5k per year.

Thanks!

If those are too small, try a Ford S-Max - by all accounts a lot better to drive than most MPVs. However for your budget you'd have to settle for a well-used one, but if you're doing only 5,000 miles a year don't be afraid of a high-mileage example.

S-Max seconded

Sounds like you don't actually need 7 seats and something that'll properly accomodate three across the back would do.

That might give a wider (oops, sorry) choice.

If it's three across the back, then check out the Honda FR-V. £8K should buy you a tidy 07/57 example, although possibly not enough for the diesel.

These cars hold their value well. One of those models that seemed to become more desirable after being discontinued.

You`ve been happy with the Rav4 so I would`ve thought the obvious choice would be the excellent Toyota Verso

Thanks all for your suggestions. I had been thinking of the Verso. I showed the OH the FR-V, but she was put off by the 3 seats across the front.

I also considered the Merc M class, as the huge running costs are balanced by a low second hand prices, but I think that the running costs will hurt too much over a few years. An XC90 Volvo with 7 seats could be an option though?

I found out today about the Grand C Max with the 1.0 ecoboost engine, so I'm wondering if I should use the money as deposit for a new car rather than buying an older one outright (as I have done in the past).

How about Mazda 5?

I bought it after discussing my options in this forum. Very happy with the drive - handles well in cramped parking lots and as well as in motorway.

For 8k, you can get a good 2009 model.

I had an XC90 and thought it a dog. Driven by lots of women who don't know any better, but coming from a decent car. it's awful. You dont need 4x4, so dont waste your money - buy an S-Max

Had a look at the Grand C-Max and the S Max today. S Max looks to be the one, and they were offering a good finance deal, but I'll go and see the Verso on Sunday before deciding.

Then I'll have to decide how to buy it. There seems to be a lot of opinions around using online brokers?

Try the FRV again but fold the seat down to make a lovely armrest for the adults and a big gap to look through for the kids. We bought one and it is a fantastic family car.

The Verso is about the same size as a C-Max, so it depends how big a car you need. If you get a quote from an online broker like Drivethedeal, some dealers will match it, particularly if the model has been around for some time, as with the S-Max or the Verso,
