Someone who I work with had a new Astra Coupe crashed into. the value of the car was about £22k (IIRC) and the damage came to about £7.5k. The insurance company said that it can't be written off and is to be repaired.
However, I was wondering about the future value of the car now that it has crash damage history. If you are not at fault (ie a no fault claim) are you entitled to claim some compensation against the offending party now that the value of your car will be lessened? I asked the Astra owner if they were going to find about compensation but got no answer.

How can any Astra coupe be "worth" £22k? The most expensive list price for an Astra coupe is £19,840, the most expensive convertible is £20,840 and you'd have to be out of your mind to pay even this much for one. However, the person whose car was damaged through no fault of their own is entitled to be put back into the position they were in immediately before their property was damaged, so it the car was really new they can sue for a new car. More at the insurance ombudsman's website which you can link to from the useful websites directory.

Agree HJ - I can think of much better things to spend £22k on !
Does seem unfair though.
