2.0 petrol SEs can be bought for £11495. Are they not up to previous VW standards? Do they have known problems?

Seems a good buy to me - but VW aren't normally known for their generosity!

You might find they are old stock 2.0 8vs with the ancient 115bhp engine rather than the newer 2.0 20v 130bhp.

Did you post this message to torment me? I've suffered horrendous depreciation on my Passat. I can't afford to change it due to the money I would lose. As long as you buy it with your eyes open and don't believe all the crud about 'bomb proof' residuals and build quality, it's not a bad price.

The residuals for any car at the moment is just horrendous. My 2.5 year old Avensis is worth 40% of its new price according to Glass. Ouch.

Never buying new again. And will run this one to the ground before changing. Otherwise it is money down the toilet. And with a new Avensis out in March, the residuals will get even worse.

Annoyed.

midlifecrisis - no, not trying to torment anyone ;-)

I wouldn't entertain one at the 'normal' price personally, but at this price I think it's worth looking at. It's possible, like HJ says, that these are old models, but I'll check tomorrow and post back here, just in case there is anyone interested.

Having owned Mazdas in the past I would prefer the Mazda 6 any day, but I'll have to wait for a bit of depreciation to work the
price of a 2.0 TS down to my level.....

In case somebody thinks about buying a BETTER car like a Mazda 6, instead!

Maybe people are realising that Passats are really just as unreliable as your average Pug or Citroen, talking of which, are C5 prices stabilising? The used HDI prices seem relatively higher than they were a year ago.

Talking about Mazda 6's. My near neighbour has a 52 reg 4wd sport auto version. It's going back....He says that the autobox's software is so puddled that it barely has any acceleration....The dealer has taken it back at the full sticker price and is replacing it with a diesel. He says that the dealer said that this is a known problem.

Well I have just checked up on these prices. They are not new after all, but 6 - 12 months old! A clever bit of marketing, or maybe not? There was a 52 reg 2.0 SE emblazoned on the side with 'Buy these cars for £11495' parked on the end of a row of brand new, unregistered identical models!

Ah well............ a good thing no-one got too excited about wanting one :-)
