Peugeot

Reliability average score: 8.82

It's a poor showing from Peugeot, with the French carmaker missing out on the number one spot by a fraction of a percentage point. Most complaints are linked to the latest 3008 SUV, while the old shape 2008 also performs badly, along with the 308 hatchback

Mercedes-Benz

Reliability average score: 8.92

The Satisfaction Index 2021 will be a year to forget for Mercedes-Benz. The latest A-Class performed extremely poorly with owners rating it as the UK's worst model for reliability. Fiat

Reliability average score: 8.93

The Panda is the only Fiat model to emerge from the Satisfaction Index unscathed. Almost every other model is marked down for repair costs and reliability, with the 500 being among the worst-ranked models. You don't need to look very far to find out why owners are so upset. The good/bad section of our Fiat 500 review is littered with reports of costly gearbox failures.

Renault

Reliability average score: 8.95

Renault scores a lowly average of 8.95 out of 10 for reliability, with complaints mostly focussed on older versions of the Megane and Clio. The Kadjar and Captur don't cover themselves in glory, either, and owners say repairs are expensive and frequent. The electric Zoe emerges with a clean bill of health, however, with owners praising it for its reliability and low running costs.

Citroen

Reliability average score: 8.99

Citroen is the third French car manufacturer to be named and shamed in the 10 worst car brands for reliability. Like many on this list, it's mostly older models that drag the average score down. Both the C3 and C4 Picasso are highlighted by owners for expensive repair costs and poor reliability, while the C3 Aircross bucks the trend with much higher scores for all-round dependability.

Porsche

Reliability average score: 9.00

When it comes to reliability, Porsche averages a disappointing nine out of 10. However, while this lowly score is enough to put the German sports car specialist into the bottom 10 overall, it's important to note that most problems are linked to older versions of the Cayenne and Panamera while newer cars, like the Macan and 911 perform much better.

Vauxhall

Reliability average score: 9.04

Vauxhall is something of a mixed bag when it comes to reliability. The Mokka, Zafira and Grandland X are all praised by owners for the fact they seldom go wrong. However, when it comes to the Astra and older versions of the Corsa, drivers are less than complimentary about reliability. Will things improve under Vauxhall's French-Italian Stellantis? One would certainly hope so.

Ford

Reliability average score: 9.06

Most of Ford's problems are caused by ageing versions of the Focus and Fiesta. Both cars scored badly for reliability and the Fiesta is marked out for particular criticism, which is echoed by readers who report a long list of problems with the EcoBoost engine. Thankfully things appear to have greatly improved with the latest Fiesta EcoBoost, which was launched in 2017.

Jaguar

Reliability average score: 9.08

It could be argued that it pays testament to the ever-improving reliability of cars that a score of 9.08 out of 10 is enough to put a manufacturer in the overall bottom 10. However, while Jaguar performs strongly across the board, owners of the XF are less than satisfied when it comes to repair costs and general reliability.
