Hyundai i30 Fastback Review 2026
Hyundai i30 Fastback Verdict
Find out more about the Hyundai i30 Fastback
The i30 Fastback is a four-door saloon that's designed to look like a coupe. It comes with either a 120PS 1.0-litre turbo or a more powerful 140PS 1.4-litre turbo. The smallest engine is combined with just a six-speed manual, so buyers who prefer an automatic have to spend more for the 1.4-litre turbo that, as well as a manual comes with the option of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Inside the i30 Fastback, if you're familiar with the i30 hatch, you'll be right at home. There's the choice of some new colour combinations but, overall, the interior is mostly unchanged which is both good and bad.
Good because the layout is straightforward and logical to use and, bad, because some of the hard plastic coverings feel low-rent. Despite the similarities, behind the wheel it doesn't take long to spot some significant differences between hatch and with the way the Fastback drives.
The biggest change is a noticeable reduction in ride comfort. As well as sitting lower, engineers have added springs that are 15 per cent stiffer – we wish they hadn't. In a bid to reduce roll through corners and boost agility, on smooth roads the Fastback feels unsettled.
Strangely, wheel size doesn't alleviate the choppiness. We tried both a 1.0-litre turbo rides on 17-inch alloys and a more powerful 1.4T on the largest 18s and smaller wheels didn't smooth out the ride.

Hyundai i30 Fastback unveiled
Tapering towards the rear, the cabin has shape inspired by a teardrop. The rear of the cabin is additionally supported by strong shoulders. The emphasis on the rear makes the i30 Fastback look capable and assertive.
There are in total twelve exterior colours available for the i30 Fastback: three pearl choices – Stargazing Blue, Micron Grey and Phantom Black, and seven metallic choices – Clean Slate blue, Intense Copper, Moon Rock, Fiery Red, Platinum Silver, Ara Blue and White Sand, plus two solid choices – Engine Red and Polar White. For the interior, customers can choose from three colour options: Oceanids black, Slate Grey or the new and unique Merlot Red interior.
The i30 Fastback reveals some significant differences compared with the other body types of the i30 range. By comparison to the i30 five-door version, the chassis of the i30 Fastback has been lowered by 5mm and the stiffness of the suspension has been increased by 15%. This provides a more dynamic and more agile driving experience while maintaining a high level of comfort.
Thanks to the lowered roof and chassis leading to an overall height of 1,425 mm, the i30 Fastback is 30 mm lower than the five-door body type, emphasising its elegant and dynamic proportions. With an elongated silhouette, the car has an overall length of 4,455 mm - 115 mm longer than the five-door.
Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle in front by automatically accelerating and braking up to 180 km/h. If the traffic comes to a halt, the system applies the brakes until the car comes to a standstill and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear.
The powertrain line-up of the i30 Fastback consists of two downsized turbocharged petrol engines, which were newly launched in the i30 range.
Customers can choose between the 1.4 T-GDI turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 140 PS or the 1.0 T-GDI turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 120 PS.
The 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol engine is offered with the six-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed dual clutch transmission, which gives a choice of fully automatic operation or manual gear changes. The 1.0 T-GDI is offered with the 6MT. All engines come standard with the Integrated Stop and Go (ISG) system for increased efficiency.
The i30 Fastback’s powertrain line-up will be further expanded with the addition of a newly developed, efficient 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine available with two power outputs: a version with 110 PS and a ‘high power’ version with 136 PS. Both versions will be available with the six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Hyundai i30 Fastback N Line launched
The N Line trim features exterior and interior design elements carried over from N, Hyundai’s high-performance range, crowned by refined chassis and suspension settings to achieve a more sporty driving feeling for the 1.4-litre T-GDI engine.
The i30 Fastback N Line with the 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol engine with 140PS has been refined in terms of suspension, engine response and exhaust sound. To match the tuned driving performance, the 1.4-litre T-GDI engine version comes with PS4 Michelin Performance tyres, 18-inch alloy wheels and enlarged brake discs.
