Geneva Motor Show 2015: New Mitsubishi ASX will go on sale in 2016
The next generation ASX will go on sale in the UK in 2016. The plug-in hybrid model - codenamed XR-PHEV II – has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and combines a small turbocharged petrol engine with a 120kw electric motor to provide 163PS, while emitting less than 40g/km of CO2.
Like the XR-PHEV that was unveiled at last year's Geneva Motor Show, the 'II' gets with aggressive styling, sweptback headlights, muscular arches, chrome grille and sloped coupe-styling at the rear.
The ASX will use Mitsubishi's PHEV plug-in hybrid system, which will be similar to the one used in the Outlander and be available with the choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
The cabin will also be upmarket, with soft touch materials, sport seats and a minimalist dashboard. The cabin will also be smartphone integrated, with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay included. As a result, the driver can use apps, maps and play music, via a large central display that's supported by a large aluminium frame, which spreads out sideways.
There are no details on fuel economy or prices, but we're told the XR-PHEV II concept is very close to the production ASX model, which will go on sale in the UK in the summer of 2016.
