Geneva Motor Show 2017: New DS7 Crossback launched

The DS7 Crossback has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2017. The French SUV will be offered with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. It should reach the UK by late 2017.

There are no details about prices, but the DS7 Crossback is expected to start in the region of £30,000 and rival the likes of the Range Rover Evoque and Audi Q3. However, at 4.6 metres long, the DS7 Crossback will be longer than its rivals and offer considerably more boot space, with up to 628 litres.

As well as a larger cabin for four adults, with tilt and slide rear seats, the DS7 Crossback will be filled with tech, including autonomous parking, night vision, adaptive cruise control and LED headlights. The French SUV will also boast active suspension, with a front-mounted camera spotting pot hole and sending controls to the shock absorbers to minimise impact on the ride quality.

The plush and upmarket interior features 'watch strap' design Nappa leather seats, chrome-finished dials, LED interior lighting and a 14-speaker Focal sound system. The stylish dashboard is dominated by a pair of HD touchscreens, which will allow the driver and front passenger to split the navigation and media displays across the two 12-inch screens. 

The engine line-up spans three petrols, two diesels and a single plug-in petrol hybrid. The BlueHDi engines – with 130PS or 180PS – will be offered with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The entry-level Puretech 130PS petrol will be limited to a manual gearbox only, while the more powerful 180 and 225 THP petrols will be offered with the eight-speed auto only.

The plug-in petrol hybrid will be the most potent powertrain in the range, with 300PS and four-wheel drive. The lithium battery is placed under the floor of the rear seats, so it shouldn’t impede interior space, and will cover up to 37 miles from a single charge. The battery will take 2.5 hours to replenish from a fast charge box or 4.5 hours from a standard 32A socket.

There are no details about fuel economy or CO2 emissions, although DS promises significant fuel savings with the hybrid. The eight-speed automatic is also said to cut fuel usage by four per cent, compared to the old six-speed ‘box.
