Paris Motor Show 2014: Lamborghini premieres surprise 910PS hybrid concept
Lamborghini has revealed a new 910PS plug-in hybrid concept, called the Asterion LPI 910-4. Billed as a technology demonstrator, the Asterion isn’t set to go into production but it does preview the potential future direction of Lamborghini models.
Power – all 910PS of it – comes from a 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine, which is mid-mounted, plus electric motors. Between the engine and the seven-speed DSG transmission is one motor and there are also three further electric motors, which together can propel the Asterion up to 30 miles with zero tailpipe emissions.
Performance is as impressive as you’d expect from a 910PS Lamborghini. 0-62mph takes 3.0 seconds, yet emission are just 98g/km – about the same as a small hatchback.
Externally the Asterion looks unmistakably like a Lamborghini, but it’s less aggressive than recent cars like the Aventador. This theme is continued inside, with a higher driving position and more emphasis on comfort. This could point towards a more mainstream production model to rival cars like the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type.
