Nissan reveals GT-R Nismo
Nissan has confirmed it will build a race-inspired version of the GT-R. The 186mph sports car will be built by Nissan's Motorsport division and be capable of covering 0-62mph in under three seconds. It’s expected to go on sale in the UK in September 2014.
Power comes from a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6, which will produce a whopping 600PS with 652Nm of torque. The extra performance comes from a set of new high-flow turbochargers, which come straight from Nismo’s GT3 racing car.
The body is stiffer and more rigid than the standard GT-R, with a hollow anti-roll bar, Bilstein DampTronic dampers and specially-developed suspension links for the front double wishbones. Dunlop has also developed special tyres for the Nismo, which will improve power delivery and cornering even further.
A carbonfibre bodykit will generate additional 100kg of downforce at 186mph, while inside the Nismo treatment is completed with Recaro seats, carbon trim and a three-spoke sports steering wheel.
Nissan claims this will be the fastest GT-R ever built and has already clocked a 7:08.679 lap time at the infamous Nürburgring Nordschliefe circuit in Germany.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said: "With a 7:08.679 lap time, we can authoritatively say that the Nissan GT-R Nismo holds the volume production car lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschliefe, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement."
The Nissan GT-R Nismo will get its official launch at the Tokyo Motor Show on 22 November and most likely get its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014.
