SEAT updates Leon for 2017

SEAT has updated the Leon, with minor styling tweaks and new technology including updated connectivity and a semi-autonomous driving mode. The revised Leon goes on sale in early 2017 and will likely be priced from around £18,000, like the current car.

One of the most important new additions is traffic jam assist, which enables the car to steer, accelerate and brake to stay in its lane in slow motorway traffic jams, up to 37mph. Other new safety technology includes blind spot assistance and traffic sign recognition.

There is also a new parking assist feature that can automatically park in bay or parallel spaces, plus new LED headlights and tail lights.

Inside, the centre console has been revised and there is now an electronic handbrake, while connectivity has been improved, with wireless charging, improved smartphone connectivity and the option of gesture control.

A new trim level – Xcellence – has been added and is designed to feel more upmarket and plush, with its own upholstery, plus specific interior and exterior trim details. This joins S, SE Dynamic, SE Technology and FR. As before, there are three-door, five-door and estate body styles.

The diesel engine range starts with a 90PS 1.6-litre and is topped by a 2.0-litre with 184PS, while the petrol engine range has outputs from 110PS to 180PS – plus there is the hot Cupra with 290PS.
