New Vauxhall Corsa revealed as £14,000 Fiesta rival

Vauxhall has revealed its new Corsa hatchback ahead of orders opening later this year with prices expected to start in the region of £14,000.

The fifth-generation Corsa is closely related to the Peugeot 208 but is likely to slightly undercut its in-house rival in a bid to appeal to the 'modest' buyer.

It'll share engines with the 208, including an entry-level 75PS 1.2-litre and a three-cylinder turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol. There'll also be a 1.5-litre diesel with 100PS and 250Nm of torque. There's also an all-electric model, badged the Vauxhall Corsa-e.

The new model weighs from 980kg - a 10 per cent reduction compared to the outgoing Corsa. Although Vauxhall is yet to confirm economy figures, it says this (combined with efficient new engines) translates to reduced fuel consumption and emission figures.

There's a host of driver assistance features available on the Corsa, such as front collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. There's also lane keep assist, which'll nudge the steering if the driver appears to inadvertantly leave their lane, and traffic sign recognition, which can remind you of speed limits.

Vauxhall also claims the new Corsa will be the first in its class to feature adpative, glare-free LED headlights, as previously used on Astra and Insignia models.

Prices are yet to be announced but expect them to start at around £14,000 when the new Vauxhall Corsa goes on sale later in 2019, with deliveries from early 2020. The Vauxhall Corsa-e will be priced from £26,490.
