2022 BMW 7 Series/i7 specs

Very little has been confirmed about the new BMW 7 Series and its i7 sister EV, although the bold styling the company is rapidly becoming famous for is sure to feature.

The 'Electric Test Car' stickers on the car shown here confirm it to be the i7 variant, and the multi-LED reflections on its headlights suggest you'll be able to spec it with high-tech lighting.

BMW hasn't released interior pictures, but expect the i7 and 7 Series to act as a shop window for BMW's latest infotainment system with augmented reality features, connected services and the latest voice recognition.

The pictures show BMW's new luxury saloon being put through its paces on the icy plains of Arjeplog, Sweden and undergoing hot-weather testing in an undisclosed location.

Sweden is an ideal place to test the i7's traction – suggesting that it will have all-wheel drive with front and rear electric motors. The slippery conditions are also perfect for calibrating the car's regenerative brakes and stability control systems.

The contrasting sunny mountain roads (in the accompanying picture set) are an ideal location to test how the car performs in the heat and at altitude – ascending and descending steep inclines. Even the air conditioning and interior materials are put through their paces under the sun's baking rays.

You'll be able to have your new BMW 7 Series as an EV – called the BMW i7 – which is expected to have a range of 370 miles, four-wheel drive and two electric motors producing 600PS for 0-62mph in less than five seconds. Specifics of the petrol and plug-in hybird models have yet to be confirmed, but expect the majority of the range to get a six-cylinder engine. The flagship V12 model will cease production with the outgoing 7 Series.
