2022 BMW X7 price and release date
The 2022 BMW X7 is on sale now with prices starting from £81,600 for an xDrive40i six-cylinder petrol with 380PS. The 340PS six-cylinder 40d diesel is £80,980. Want your expensive SUV to swallow fuel like a marthan runner guzzles water? Then you'll want the V8 M60i xDrive, which has 530PS and scorches you from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds. The price for such exuberance? £103,600.
2022 BMW X7: styling and interior
The new BMW X7's most noticeable feature is its split headlights, which stack the car's daytime-running LEDs on top of its main headlights. Naturally, the grille is bigger and, if you're willing to pay extra for the privilege, can also be illuminated. The optional 23-inch alloy wheels are the biggest BMW has ever fitted from the factory.
Standard versions get 20-inch alloy wheels, while M Sport models get 21-inch wheels and a body kit that makes them look like the range-topping V8 model.
There's an elegance to the i7's interior that you won't find on the exterior. You get a row of buttons on the dashboard and a handful more on the steering wheel, but that's it – the rest of the cabin is covered in leather and wood. The new minimalist approach comes thanks to a 14.9-inch curved infotainment screen that's detailed and colourful in equal measure.
The BMW has space for seven people and all the seats are electrically adjustable. Fold the back seats away and the X7 becomes the most luxurious van you've ever seen.
2022 BMW X7: engines, performance and MPG
All BMW X7s come fitted with air suspension, four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. You also get mild-hybrid 48V technology which means the X7 can coast on the motorway and cut out its engine as it rolls to a stop to save fuel.
The range kicks off with the six-cylinder xDrive 40i, which produces 380PS and 540Nm of torque, meaning even the entry-level model can surge forwards from 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds and has a 155mph top speed.
The xDrive 40d is more economical. It can return up to 37.2mpg, while the six-cylinder petrol can only manage 30.7mpg.
The V8 M60i xDrive is the range's powerhouse. It thumps out 530PS and a 750Nm of torque - enough to stop the planet earth's rotation in its tracks and to propel this goliath from 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds. It also has a 155mph top speed.
