Jaguar F-Pace 300 and 400 Sport: engines and performance

The Jaguar F-Pace 300 Sport diesel is the 'thinkers' performance SUV, delivering commanding performance but without the high running costs that'll make you gulp any time you have a big drive ahead of you.

The straight-six 3.0-litre diesel has a 48V mild-hybrid system that allows the F-Pace to coast on the motorway and switch its engine off as you come to a halt, resulting in average fuel consumption of 38.2mpg.

Not bad for a 300PS, 650Nm SUV that gets from 0-62mph in just 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 143mph.

That said, the 400PS petrol is quicker.

It'll hit 155mph and slashes the 0-62mph time to 5.4 seconds. It gets the same mild-hybrid tech as the diesel but, tellingly, Jaguar hasn't quoted an MPG figure.

Both the 300 and 400 Sport get a throttle, suspension and steering you can adjust yourself or let the car do it automatically based on the current conditions.

Inside, you get Windsor leather upholstery with heated, cooled and electrically adjustable front seats, a suede headliner, Satin Charcoal veneers, adjustable ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof.

It'll understand commands like  ‘Alexa, ask Jaguar to check my range’ or ‘Alexa, ask Jaguar if my car is fully charged’ and ‘Alexa, ask Jaguar if my doors are locked’.

The app gives you a remote connection to the car via its 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen sat-nav system that comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
