2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV prices and release date

The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV has been revealed ahead of production starting at the firm’s Alabama factory in North America in late 2022. The new electric SUV will be released in the UK in mid-2023.

Prices of the new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV have not yet been confirmed. It will be positioned above the Mercedes-Benz EQE saloon, which costs from around £75,000. We estimate on-the-road prices starting from upwards of £90,000. Including options, most 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUVs are likely to cost more than £100,000.

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV styling, interior and technology

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV boasts the futuristic styling of the firm’s other Mercedes-EQ electric cars. It contrasts with the more traditional appearance of Mercedes-Benz petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid models.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is a very aerodynamic car, boasting a slippery drag factor (Cd) from just 0.25 – seriously impressive for a large SUV. It has been achieved through features such as a flat windscreen, a carefully-honed profile and very comprehensive underfloor tuning, so airflow meets the least possible resistance.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is 4,863mm long, 1,940mm wide and 1,686mm tall. It’s shorter overall than the Mercedes-Benz EQE saloon, with the wheelbase a surprising 90mm shorter. Ample width and height will give it a powerful presence on the road.

The front-end styling is based around a black panel unit with a look that is shared with other Mercedes-EQ models. Those wanting to add a little glamour can choose an optional Mercedes-Benz 3D star pattern. LED daytime running lights have a ‘signet’ design and there is a white LED light bar between the headlights. Alloy wheel sizes range from 19 inches to 22 inches.

The design of the new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV’s interior will be familiar to anyone who has already experienced the Mercedes-Benz EQE saloon. It has the same clean and modern appearance, with extremely high levels of perceived quality. There are plenty of touch-sensitive controls, adding to the contemporary feel, while the dash-top strip of air vents is detailed in LED ambient lighting.

As standard, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV features a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen in the centre of the dash, with an additional 12.3-inch driver’s infotainment display. The Mercedes-Benz MBUX Hyperscreen setup is offered as an option; the central screen grows to 17.7 inches and is joined by dual 12.3-inch driver and passenger displays.

The passenger is able to stream videos on their screen – with clever technology ensuring it won’t distract the driver. The entire panel comprises a single, seamless piece of glass, for a very dramatic and high-tech appearance.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV promises to be a roomy car inside. It is a full five-seater, with more than a metre of headroom both front and rear, plus more than a metre of rear legroom. A 520-litre boot grows to 580 litres if you angle the rear seat backrest more upright – or you can lower it in a 40/20/40 split, opening up 1,675 litres of space. The large tailgate makes it easy to load.

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV batteries, performance and fuel economy

The pure electric EQE SUV will be offered in three Mercedes-Benz guises at launch, along with two Mercedes-AMG high-performance models. The Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ and EQE 350 4Matic both share a 288PS power output. The Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4Matic has 402PS. Performance figures have not yet been disclosed.

All models use the same 90kWh battery. The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV with the longest range is the entry-level EQE 350+, which can travel up to 366 miles on a full charge. But even the EQE 500 4Matic can cover almost 340 miles. The potential for 170kW DC rapid charging means around 135 miles of range can be added in just 15 minutes.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4Matic boasts 476PS and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ offers a considerable uplift in power, to as much as 689PS when the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package is fitted. It means fantastic performance, with 0-62mph taking just 3.5 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV customers can choose optional Airmatic suspension, with ADS+ continuously variable damping for even higher levels of ride comfort. This also allows the body height to be raised by 30mm, while 4Matic models come with a standard off-road mode. Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 4Matic models can tow a useful 1,800kg.

One interesting option is rear-axle steering, which can turn the rear wheels by up to 10 degrees. This makes the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV easier to park, as it reduces the turning circle from 12.3 metres to 10.5 metres.

Does the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV have a heat pump?

A heat pump is fitted as standard to the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. It helps make the climate control system much more efficient – and can deliver warm air almost immediately after start-up on a cold day.

Will the electric range of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV improve over time?

Mercedes-Benz says over-the-air updates will help hone the battery management software over time. This could mean the EV driving range of the EQE SUV improves in years to come.

What does the new Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV sound like?

Mercedes-Benz offers a choice of several different ‘soundscapes’ in the new EQE SUV. A fourth soundscape called Serene Breeze is introduced here; it sounds ‘relaxed and natural’, we are told.
