Find out more about the Peugeot 208

New prices start from £17,805

The new Peugeot 208 and new model Vauxhall Corsa went on sale in October 2019 at prices from £16,250. It is available with petrol and diesel engines, as well as an electric version badged the e-208 with a range of up to 211 miles.

Buyers can choose from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 75, 100 or 130PS or a BlueHDi 1.5-litre diesel engine with 100PS. There's also a choice of six-speed manual or EAT8 eight-speed automatic gearboxes.

The interior of the 208 is inspired by the tech laden 508, with an abundance of soft-touch materials and a compact steering wheel that's complemented by a minimalist dashboard design. The 3D digital instrument panel can be projected like a hologram via the colour touchscreen.

There's also a seven- or ten-inch touchscreen display, depending on trim level, which provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Peugeot is offering a host of driver assistance technology including adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping assist and automatic headlight dipping.

Prices initially from £16,250 to £23,350 for the 208 1.2 Puretech 130 GT Line EAT8. The all-electric e-208 is likely to follow prices of the Vauxhall Corsa-e at around £30,000, minus the £3,500 Government Grant.

Peugeot 208 handling and engines

The 1.2 Puretech 130 engine is only available with the EAT8 eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which is one of the slickest automatic gearboxes available.

The mid-range 1.2 Puretech 100PS is available with a six-speed manual or EAT8, while the entry-level 75PS engine comes with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The entry-level 75PS engine is suprisingly eager.  It's peppy and fun, with plenty of performance for driving through city centres.

Whichever engine you choose, the steering is light, which is great for darting around town. The 208 doesn't feel as sporty as a Ford Fiesta but handles well, remaining pretty flat and composed during high-speed cornering.

The downside is that the suspension is firmer than that of the Citroen C3, especially in the GT Line model with 17-inch wheels.

Full specifications

The interior of the Peugeot 208 GT-Line feels just as upmarket as bigger and more expensive Peugeot models like the 508 and 3008 with a similar i-cockpit in which you look over the small steering wheel at the driver sisplay rather than through it.

The infotainment system  a clear enough 20-inch screen although awkward (and a bit slow) to navigate, and having to go into menus just to adjust the climate control is annoying. However, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard across the range, allowing you to access your phone's features on the move.

The 208 is reasonably practical. It's easy enough to get comfortable in the front. There's a 311-litre boot which is a good size for a small hatchback, although there's a lip for hoisting heavy items over. Dropping the rear seats is simple enough if you need more load area.

There's adequate space in the back for children and access is easy thanks to the wide-opening rear doors (no three-door 208), although adults may find it cramped on long journeys.

Teenagers with power-hungry smartphones will be happy to find two USB outputs in the back.

Outside, ‘Diamond Black’ door mirror covers are introduced on Active Premium and Allure Premium for a more distinctive sportier look. Active Premium and Allure Premium versions benefit from the fitment of 16” Class A+ tyres, producing a lower rolling resistance and leading to improved efficiency.

Active Premium models feature 16-inch ‘Taksim’ or ‘Elborn’ alloy wheels as standard (depending on powertrain). All models also come standard with Mirror Screen®, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto.

Inside, the seats are trimmed in tri-material ‘Pneuma’ and ‘Rimini’ cloth with orange double stitch detail for added ambiance. For enhanced safety, all models come as standard with PEUGEOT Connect SOS and Assistance, Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Recognition and Recommendation and Driver Attention Warning. Rear parking sensors and automatic headlights provide further convenience.

Allure Premium models come with 16-inch ‘Soho’ diamond-cut alloy wheels and a gloss black finish to the B-pillar and rear bumper, while the rear lights are full LEDs and feature PEUGEOT’s iconic 3D ‘Claw Effect’ signature. The seats are finished in tri-material ‘Cozy’ leather-effect and ‘Isabella’ cloth seat trim with light blue double-stitch detail, while the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® is upgraded with the addition of a configurable 3D head-up instrument panel. A 180 degree colour reversing camera and automatic windscreen wipers are also added.

GT variants move up to 17-inch diamond-cut, two tone alloy wheels, while the exterior styling is further enhanced with gloss black wheel arch extensions, a diamond black roof and a dark chrome chequered radiator grille with gloss black edge trim. GT trim also features 3-Claw headlights with a distinctive ‘Tooth’ design. Interior enhancements include 8-colour ambient lighting, lime green contrast stitching and a 10-inch capacitive colour touchscreen featuring Connected 3D Navigation.

Top of the range GT Premium trim is fitted with 17-inch ‘Bronx’ alloy wheels (petrol/diesel versions), while the seats are trimmed in tri-material ‘Mistral’ black Alcantara® and cloth seat trim with lime green stitch detail. GT Premium models also gain PEUGEOT Open & Go (keyless entry), adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and lane positioning assist.

August 2022

Peugeot 208 updated with new trim levels

Peugeot has updated the 208 with enhanced specification and a new trim structure; orders for the updated 208 are now open.

From August onwards, Active Premium+ and Allure Premium+ models replace current Active Premium and Allure Premium, with no pricing changes on either trim level. GT and GT Premium models remain the same.

Entry-level Active Premium+ models now come with dark tinted rear and rear side windows for an even more stylish appearance. For greater comfort and convenience, all Active Premium+ models now come fitted standard with automatic windscreen wipers and automatic air conditioning.

Allure Premium+ models receive the Aluminium Pack, which adds subtle styling updates such as an aluminium finish on the pedals and front door sills. Inside, Allure Premium+ models now feature a new 7-inch touchscreen with Peugeot Connected 3D Navigation. This forms part of the brand’s innovative i-Cockpit®, which also consists of a compact multi-function steering wheel and configurable 3D head-up digital instrument panel.

The Peugeot 208 range is available with petrol, diesel or fully electric powertrains, giving customers the ‘Power of Choice’ to find the option best suited to their needs. In addition to advanced 1.2L PureTech engines and an efficient 1.5L BlueHDi diesel, customers can opt for the zero-emissions-in-use e-208, which is powered by a 50kWh battery and 100kW electric motor for up to 225 miles of range (WLTP). Supporting up to 100kW rapid charging, a 0-80% charge can be completed in just 30 minutes.

The Peugeot 208 and e-208 can be purchased in-store from Peugeot Retailers and via Peugeot’s Buy Online platform. Buy Online allows customers to configure, finance, and order their next vehicle entirely from the comfort of their home, as well as obtain a part-exchange valuation on their current vehicle. Via Peugeot’s Virtual Showroom, customers can also schedule a one-on-one live video tour of vehicles they’re interested in.
