Why has the insurance on our Cat N write off gone up so much?

My daughter bought back her Cat N write off Vauxhall Astra from Direct Line. Now her insurers have put her insurance up 300%. Is it because of the car being a written off?

It will be because she has been involved in an incident and the fact the vehicle now has a total loss marker. Some insurers do not like insuring previous total losses.

I just discovered category N write offs, which are cars that have no structural damage. Why would it get written off if only the body work needed attention? Is it okay to buy a Cat N car?
