Replace a Skoda Octavia estate - or extend warranty?

We are considering replacing an 8-year-old Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI estate but will also consider taking out an extended warranty to cover future repairs. Would you recommend this?

Extended warranties are virtually useless on older cars because they either exclude too much or cost too much because of the increased risk to the insurer.
