Cam belt replacement
I own a VW Golf first registered Sept 2007.
The VW dealership tells me the cam belt should be replaced after four years regardless of mileage, but the service handbook talks about checking the cam belt after 60,000 and 80,000 miles and then replacing the belt after 100,000 miles. Please advise at what age and or mileage you would recommend replacement.

VAG changed its edict to 4 years of 40k miles after a spate of small pulley failures on 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines that flung off the timing belts, wrecking the engines.
