Winter Tyres and notifying insurers
I recently had winter tyres fitted to my Mercedes 230 by my local Mercedes-Benz dealership. Recollecting your advice I telephoned our brokers to inform the insurance company of the change. The brokers are part of a larger company and we have used them for many years for all our insurance issues.
They told me that the tyre change was not included in the list of notifiable changes and therefore there was no need to do anything. I was reminded of this today when I read your excellent column in the Daily Telegraph as I do every week. You again told a reader not to forget to inform his insurance company when changing to winter tyres. Is my broker wrong? This confusion is quite worrying.

I give that general advice because though some insurers, like yours, do not require notification, others do and could use not being notified to cancel the insurance after a crash.
