What's the usual mph/rpm ratio?
My friends Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 Auto Diesel does 60mph at 2000 rpm in top gear on a flat road.
I think this is about 500rpm too much. There is no change in rpm when switching the gear change from normal to sport at 60 mph.
If the engine is running too fast obviously it uses more fuel and increases wear. Is this normal or is there anything that can be done, please?

30mph per 1,000rpm might be about right to give a sensible top gear for towing. But I'd have thought (as you do) more like 35mph per 1,000). Maybe it's not getting into top (7th) gear of the DSG.
