The timing chain has jumped - can I get any goodwill?
The timing chain has jumped on my VW Polo 1.2 2003 model at 38K miles. VW customer services UK have refused to contribute to pay for repairs as a goodwill gesture, even though the timing chain jumping is a VW design fault.
Having checked websites, VW know that this is a design fault as there was no tensioner kit with this model. First took to VW garage - quote to fix was ridiculous £2-3K if engine damage). Have taken car to another garage. A compression test was done. Exhaust valves leaking. Garage say will cost £1200-£1600 to repair which I feel is still expensive.
I still feel VW should pay towards the cost of repairs as otherwise I will be forced to sell at a low price. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is common. Less likely to happen if the oil and filter are changed every 5000 miles. But VAG is not very goodwill friendly anyway, never mind over a fault with a 9 year old car. You have no legal rights over a nine year old car already two years past the end of its design life. Sorry.
