What is causing signal interference with my BMW 5 Series' radio?

My 2004 BMW 5 Series Touring, has suddenly developed interference on the radio, especially on medium and long wave, but not on FM. I understand that the aerial is in the rear window, but whether the heated window is on or off makes little difference. Any suggestions?

This is now happening generally as part of the gradual switchover to DAB. So you might find that even if you install an expensive custom aerial you still have the same problem. Another reader had this with a new F10 5-Series and the dealer looked after him by replacing his radio with a DAB radio.
