Which Golf engine for reliability?
I am interested in a used manual Volkswagen Golf VI or VII. In the Introduction section to the VW Golf VI you mention that there are "huge problems with the chain cam 1.4 TSI mainly the twincharger versions".
Does this concern apply to the 1.4 122ps or the 1.2 TSI versions? Would a belt cam engine be preferable? Your general advice seems to be to avoid diesel engines due to potential future problems; what Golf engine would you recommend for an annual mileage of up to 15k?

The 1.4 122 and 1.2 105 are not Twincharger, so the main problem with the chain cam versions of these is not having had the oil changed often enough. 20k miles is not often enough. That's why VAG switched the engines over to belt cam. So far, the new EA211 1.2 and 1.4 TSIs with turbo only have been okay, but I'd expect that because they have only been around for a couple of years.
