Buying a crossover- which car has the best longevity?
My preference is to buy a new/newish crossover style car and I like the Nissan Qashqai, but i have been advised that being a Nissan, it will run into problems and be expensive in it's latter years/ not last as long as other makes. Therefore - advised not to buy this car - better to lease for a few years. Can you please advise ?

Well yes, that's sensible policy. Nothing is built to last longer than 7 years anyway because a 'reasonable life' without major problems is deemed to be 6 years. At least Kia warrants its Sportage for a full 7 years.
