Motorway speed restrictions?
This morning I was travelling on the M1 Southbound when a speed limit of 50 mph was imposed at the M6/M1 junction. This continued for about 20 miles but at no time did either myself or my wife see ANY workmen whatsoever. Can anything be done about this ridiculous state of affairs or is it a way of funding the new M6/M1 junction by way of speeding fines?

I think this is the stretch that starts at the Catthorpe Interchange Southbound. What they are doing is turning it into 'smart' motorway that automatically switches the hard shoulder into an extra lane at time of congestion when there is nothing blocking it. That means intermittent work installing cameras every 100 metres. However, I agree with you entirely that 50 limits to protect the 'workforce' should be lifted to 60 on Sundays when no 'workforce' is ever working.

When driving on a three lane motorway at 70mph, I feel safer in the middle lane. This saves me a lot of lane changing. Is this legal?
