Is the Volkswagen 1.4 TSi engine reliable?

Is the 1.4 TSi engine durable/reliable?

Up to 2013 it was a chain cam engine and whether you got a good chain or a bad one was a lottery. Since 2013 it has been belt cam, so no timing chain problems, but the belt, tensioner and waterpump all need replacing at a cost of around £500 every 4 years.
