Do summer tyres need to be refitted in the same position?

I just had winter tyres refitted to wife's car Toyota Yaris, which was returned without the position of each removed tyre being marked, as had been the case with the winter ones they've just put on. Does this matter?

I do the same. Best to return summer tyres to the position they came from. But winter tyres are directional (can turn only in one direction) so it's crucial for winter tyres.
